WELCOME

About architecture and experiencing of space, about landscapes and plants.

Merja Heino is a visual artist from Helsinki, Finland, working with painting and video art.
The themes of the paintings include the history of architecture as well as landscapes and plants. The videos are animations based on still photos dealing with the idea of Paradise.

The ideas of the paintings arise from the historical and contemporary European architecture which she links with challenges of colours – she studied architecture before changing to free arts.

What is architecture about? – The experience of space, the experiences in the space.
How to describe these experiences without drawing a picture of space itself? How to visualize the universal human emotions that arise from the experiences of space? What are the effects colours have on us?

Exhibition right now:

Welcome to see Merja Heino’s new sculpture/installation titled ‘UNINVITED GUEST’ in Art Center Antares’s exhibition DREAM AND DEATH – HYPNOS AND THANATOS.

The idea of the installation raised up from the pandemic, but ultimately it is about the relationship and competition between human and nature.
The exhibition is open to public until 29th of August, daily except on Mondays.

TERVETULOA

Olen helsinkiläinen kuvataiteilija, työskentelyalueina maalaus ja videotaide. Maalausteni teemat käsittelevät arkkitehtuurin ja ornamenttien historiaa, hiljaisia maisemia sekä kasveja. Kasviaiheisten videoteosten aiheena on paratiisi, eri tavoin lähestyttynä. Videot ovat valokuvapohjaisia animaatioita.

Uusin teokseni, veistos-installaatio KUTSUMATON VIERAS on nähtävillä Taidekeskus Antareksen kesänäyttelyssä Sippolassa, Kouvolassa 29.8. asti. Teos sai alkunsa pandemian synnyttämistä ajatuksista, mutta pohjimmiltaan se käsittelee ihmisen luoman kulttuurin ja luonnon välistä konfliktia.
